My current case should have been easy: find a local billionaire's missing daughter. Was anything ever easy, though? Certainly not lately. Especially not when the case becomes bigger than just one missing young woman. The carnival, a yearly summer event, has come to Hallux once more and I'm certain the spate of disappearances connected to my case all end there.

Visit the riverfront to investigate—sounds simple, right? Well, it would have been if my search hadn't implicated a crime boss in what could be a human trafficking ring. Because there's no way that would end badly, right? Certainly not with hired thugs accosting me in my office.

Oh wait.

But hey, silver lining: wouldn't it be advantageous to be saved from said thugs by my soulmate? The one I didn't know existed who just so happens to be involved with the carnival? And by involved, I mean he's a demon enslaved on a riverboat tasked with conning humans out of their souls.

That…doesn't complicate things, does it?
